You are just a accident away from changing your opinion

I am college educated and worked from the time I was a teenager until the age 34. After a car accident involving a deer, my life changed forever. A spinal cord injury and a seven month stay in the hospital, Would change most peoples opinion about healthcare. Reassured that I had health insurance I concentrated on rehabilitation.

Along with other patients that I got to know well I found myself at the cap of insurance coverage. The only option was disability social security and medicare. Several couples actually divorced so their spouse could qualify for federal aid to cover medical bills. The only other options available was bankruptcy or selling everything they owned. Now I can't go back to work if I wanted to because I can't qualify for private employer based health insurance.

The private health insurance I had dropped me. but they loved me as long as I was paying Even on Medicare I can barely afford the co-pays for prescriptions. The drug companies don't care about me the private insurance companies don't care about me. The doctors might care but not enough to charge reasonable prices.

Every day I see the Life-flight helicopter fly over and think "welcome to the real world." All these people protesting against healthcare reform, are just one accident away from the stark reality of the "Raping of America" by the Insurance companies and the drug companies.

I was told once "follow the money" I see the skyline in Des Moines the newest and tallest buildings are insurance companies. Every other commercial on TV is insurance or drug companies. The Big money doesn"t want the average American to have a choice on healthcare that would upset the gravy train. The representatives that are against reform are bought and paid for and it doesn't take a genius to prove it. Just remember tomorrow it could be your turn!
