Wish We Lived in Canada

Heathcare Status: Uninsured

I am part owner of a very small business in North Texas. Our company does well to make payroll each month for our 5 employees but providing health insurance is simply too expensive.

We have 3 children but our income is considered too high to qualify for coverage under CHIP. Even if we could afford the premiums, we are unable to purchase a private plan for our family due to pre-existing condition exclusion.

This week we found out that my wife needs surgery. We are now trying to figure out what to do. We cannot afford a $20k plus medical bill. The "for profit" medical system we have in America is a train wreck. If you have insurance and money, you're in good shape. If you don't, you're out of luck.

We don't need "health insurance reform", we need "health care reform". I am not optimistic that we will ever see real reform. America has the best politicians that money can buy and they are wholly owned by special interests.
