Sick Wife and child waiting for US Visa only covered for "emergencies" until immigration
I married a foreigner who has a 5 year old daughter and they are waiting for their US Visa in their home country. I put them on my insurance policy, but was told I could only submit for reimbursement for emergencies.
My wife has Type II diabetes and recently had a thyroidectomy due to cancer as well as an ovectomy. She needs ongoing blood tests and care, but since it is not an "emergency" I cannot get reimbursed for any of this care. They could be waiting for their visa for as much as a one year and it seems like a short time if you are healthy, but it's a long time to wait when you are not. I am part of a very small minority with this situation, so I'm sure it won't change but it would be nice if the Insurance Companies would treat them like a member of my family for at least a year while they are waiting for their visa. Thanks for listening!
