Under-insured American Citizen

Heathcare Status: Employer Insured

My story is not as critical as some Americans' but I am employed full-time. I have been working for a landscape architect for 10 years. The company has always paid for half of my premium but the deductible has significantly increased over the past several years. I started with a $250.00 deductible and now have a $2,500.00. I have been paying half of my premium which is $380.00 a month (my half is $190.00).

Since the most recent increase in our deductible, I can no longer afford to stay on the company plan. My husband has been struggling to find a full-time job for the past 3-4 years and has consequently had no medical insurance. I have not been able to afford to put him on my plan. With premiums and high deductibles and the 10% I still have to pay after the deductible, my annual income to pay for housing, a car, clothing, food...the bare essentials, I find it to be very difficult to get ahead. My employer lives very well. The rest of us, who have dedicated ourselves to the success of his business, feel cheated that we are not fairly cared for in return.

I think it is wrong that people can only get insurance coverage from their employer. This set-up is unfair and it leaves out a huge number of American citizens to get any coverage at all. I am for universal healthcare and always have been. I am ashamed to live in a country that cares so little for its citizens. Only the rich and powerful get the care that should be afforded to everyone! Shame on this administration and the conservatives for being so against the basic human right of affordable healthcare! Thank you Michael Moore for your humanitarian effort to bring our society out of ignorance and greed.
