Unable to Afford Insurance or Doctor's Visits
Six years ago I hurt my back at work. I went through worker's comp and after three years had to settle my case to keep from being homeless just short of the final result. During worker comp case, was seen by many doctors, had many tests, physical therapy, and occupational therapy. Was told that I had five bulging discs in my back and the problem could not be fixed.
My doctor that I went to a year ago told me that the report didn't say that. I've been in pain for six years and more medical problems have risen but because I lost my medical insurance at time of injury, I cannot afford to have tests done for diagnosis. I am 49 years old, in pain, about 85 pounds, have broken teeth so bad most are broken down to the skin, have bad eyes. My husband has diabetis, an ulcer and bad eyes. We have a hard time finding a doctor who will see us without insurance and the ones that will we can not afford to pay.
I've also applied for Social Security disability and was turned down all the way to through the appeal process without a reason given. Attorney told me I could appeal to the state supreme court but I'd need a better doctor and more extensive testing done, all of which I cannot afford. Attorney told me that he believes I was turned down for Social Security disability because I'm not yet 50, even if I cannot work. Then I was advised to try applying for state medical help, again I was turned down without a reason, I believe it was because Social Security disability turned me down.
I've given up. I haven't gone to a doctor in over a year because I can't afford it and even if I could I couldn't afford the meds I'd need just to calm down the pain I have.
