Stranded

This is an all time low in the health care industry! My father was admitted to Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center, stayed for about five days then released. I took him home to get settled, went to the store and returned to find the ambulance taking him back to the hospital. There he was again having trouble breathing. This would be the second time he was discharged before being healthy enough to return home. The first time he almost died getting into my car.

This time they decide to fly him to Las Vegas (Desert Springs Medical Center) to have surgery (trachea stent)They fly him there in a hospital gown. He had a bag with a pair of slippers, socks and pants in it and that's about it. Surgery went great and Dad is feeling pretty good. The Dr feels he is ready to be discharged. He can return home....but wait a minute, home is 7 hours away by car. He doesn't have his wallet, I don't even know if he has a shirt to wear.

The insurance provided the trip there but they are not willing to get him home. Let's say that's acceptable? It would have been nice to know this was going to happen so he had clothes, a wallet and some cash to catch a cab to the airport. I am so angry about this because I have tried everything and talked to everyone to try and get a plan together and they are telling me what to do but not offering any assistance.

I make a reservation on Southwest airlines and the hospital tells me that he can't fly SW because he has to have an o2 tank and SW doesn't allow it. So now I know he needs o2 for the ride home but I can't make the reservation until they have the o2 machine available for him. They are willing to pay for an extra day in the hospital while waiting for the o2 to arrive, but they can't pay for a 40 dollar taxi ride to the airport.

I am so angry that I don't know if I am writing crazy or if you can make something of what I just typed.
