screwed for life

Heathcare Status: Self-Insured

While traveling outside my home state, I was involved in an auto accident when a driver rear-ended me on a freeway. I stopped for construction; she didn't, and hit me doing about 70 mph. I was thrown from my vehicle, in spite of wearing a seat belt, when my vehicle rolled 3 times down the freeway.

I had an HMO in my home state, but needed immediate attention and was life-flighted to a hospital about 50 miles away. I had a C-2 neck fracture which was repaired by screwing me back together. Because of the traumatic brain injury which I also suffered at the time, I can no longer work.

I had to move with my newly married self-employed husband to a new state, but because of my pre-existing condition could not get any new insurance. So I currently pay nearly $450/month for an HMO I have to travel out of state to get care with. I will always have this pre-existing condition, because I will always have a screw in my neck and brain damage. I am "screwed" for life when it comes to health insurance
