Sadly, The Best Way To Get Care Is To Be In An Auto Accident

On 2/28/08 my husband and I were going to look at a friend's place to rent, at the time I was 9/mo pregnant. Our car was t-boned from the passenger side where I was sitting. Due to the accident my placenta ruptured, severely injured my daughter, broke my ribs which punctured and collapsed my lungs, two pelvic fractures, severe nerve damage, and a subdural hematoma; and that was just me.

For our daughter, we don't know what she'll have to go through. She was not breathing at the time of "birth" after undergoing a emergency c-section and removal of her. She also had a subdural hematoma, severe tone issues, fractured skull, and issues that are still to come.

Though everyone told us that if you have to get hurt do it in an auto related accident since they pay for everything. Well its true they'll pay for everything, since we don't have insurance its been a great help, but they don't like to. They tried to argue my placenta's rupture was not due to the accident even though the day before I was at the OB/GYN's office for a checkup and they said I was great. They argued that I didn't need physical therapy even though my hip was fractured and killed many nerves... I had to learn how to walk again.

We're still fighting for money from my husband taking lessons to care for me so they'd pay him to watch over the family... now they're wanting us to pay them for that time. I have to say that yes, Allstate has been amazing and helped us out a lot, but we have to live every day praying we'll make the bills. Due to family, friends, and complete strangers giving us donations we've been able to make all our payments and give our daughter things she needs.

Recently we got good news and bad news. Due to the head injuries I now have my seizures will most likely stay for the rest of my life, and the insurance might not pay for the medication after a year. Though luckily my daughter's seizures have stopped and show no sign of returning we still need help. If I can't take care of her, work, drive, or do anything... how will we pay for some one to do it for us?

We are grateful to have a family friend who is a lawyer and that is helping us out from the kindness of his heart, and an amazing claims adjuster whom fights for us. Most of all, my rehab doctors and staff do all they can, even watch our daughter while I get speech, occupational, vocational, recreational or physical therapy. My daughter's and my lead rehab doctors also have been amazing, mine will fight for me to get the insurance to pay for things I need.

It's scary with how America is to even think of "what if I didn't have auto insurance" or "what if this wasn't from a car accident". Since this accident and the movie of SiCKO we're currently saving all the money we can... hoping to some day move to a better place, one that cares about their people.

Where are the people who need to know we are not taking care of our own people. What is wrong with this picture. A women is in a terrible car accident, who almost lost her life and the baby and the insurance said it is not possible for a ruptured uterus. HELLO. As a nurse (LVN) for over 20 years and in the medical field for over 35 years I know better than that. I will pray for you and your baby for a healthy life to come. But you keep fighting, but don't come to California.
