Retired RN who joins the ranks of the uninsured at the age of 62

Heathcare Status: Uninsured

Back in 2007 I retired from 30 years of nursing to care for my Mother who died in Jan 2008. I tried to obtain cobra insurance and they quoted me a monthly cost of $580.00. I was in shock and with my limited income could not afford that much. I am in good health with only a mildly elevated cholesterol and beginning osteoporosis. I did go back to work as an occupational health nurse on a very part time basis since I am now taking my social security. My income still does not allow me to buy health insurance which I am more than willing to pay a reasonable amount. I have always felt that anything to do with health care should not be a profit based operation and feel that health care is a right not a privilege. After seeing Michael Moore's Sicko and talking with many Canadians and British people I am convinced we need a massive overhaul and a single payer system. Thank you all for doing such an incredible job of lobbying for this. I will continue to support your efforts in anyway I can.
