Out of pocket costs
My husband and I are self-insured. Our insurance premium is just short of $1,100.00 per month. During the year of 2007, our out-of-pocket expenses for health insurance, both medical and dental, came to an astonding $31,000.00. We don't make $31,000.00 per year. In order to pay for these expenses, I was forced to take out our IRA funds to pay. It is a sad state to think we can't afford to retire and stay healty at the same time.
