Guaranteed Healthcare

After losing my job (which of course carried health insurance) of 10 years as a legal assistant, I went through the COBRA plan and for almost one year paid $1200 per month for health insurance. After going bankrupt because of medical bills, my husband and I had to cancel the COBRA insurance before it ran out.

After that we managed to obtain health insurance for our family, but at a prohibitive cost of $853 a month and all of the claims that we submitted, even for regular doctor visits were denied. We had to cancel the insurance after only 4 months before we went bankrupt again! In the meantime, since my husband retired from the USAF, we found out about TRICARE and were able to sign on with them. We are both now on Medicare and have "Tricare for Life" but it was a fight to find out about TRICARE -almost like the government didn't want us to know about it. I served in the USAF as well, but for only 2.5 years but my husband certainly paid his dues!

I'm concerned for all the uninsured Americans who don't have health care and deserve to be treated like human beings by our government, not like "discards" and dropped off on the streets in Los Angeles by hospitals because these dear citizens could not pay their hospital bills! What is the matter with this country? I have been a Republican for all of my life but you better believe that I'm now a Democrat and will vote to see a Democrat elected to the White House in November of 2008!
