A letter of appeal to United Health Care:

This is to inform you that I was rushed to the Yuma Regional Hospital on 10/24/06 and diagnosed with kidney stones. The doctors advised immediate surgery. I was taken into surgery on 11/02/06 and the only urologist in town did the surgery. This urologist seems to be out of network according to United Health.

My physical condition was so bad that I had to have the surgery done immediately; otherwise it could have been fatal. I am a teacher and I do have not had any outstanding bills to date. I keep my records clean. I have this bill of $3,065 outstanding because United Health has made me responsible for this amount because they determined that the urologist is out of network. But why should I be paying that amount when the surgery was done due to an emergency situation by the only urologist in Yuma Regional Hospital.

Moreover, it is impossible for me to pay this amount because I’ am the only earning member in the house, and I am supporting three grown up kids. This is a legitimate appeal and I hope United Health Care will take necessary steps to process this claim as an in network provider and make the necessary payments at the earliest opportunity.
