My daughter lost her health coverage
I'm sure this is a common occurrence for thousands, millions of people. My daughter turned 23 years old this summer and I can no longer cover her under my employer-paid health insurance. Since she has not been able to find a job and she needs to coverage I am now paying $432.00 monthly for COBRA for her. She has asthma and a history of pneumonia so she already has pre-existing conditions.
I am a nurse and seen many, many people fall through the wide-open cracks of this country's healthcare coverage. I have seen people lose health insurance, have to pay out-of-pocket for staggering medical bills, and were unable to afford necessary medications and medical procedures. $432.00/month may not seem like much to some people but for me it is enough to drive me into financial distress.
And don't get me started on ignorant people calling "Living Wills" "Death Panels!" that's a whole other issue. I worked with patients with cancer for many years and have seen many people die. The whole idea of " living wills" is to help patients and their families discuss end of life issues and may be among the most important discussions of their lives. People should not be deprived of that opportunity by these crazy scaremongers! Thanks for the opportunity to vent! Please support universal healthcare for this country. We need it. Rowena Henry RN
