Medicare D or Medicare Disaster
As a member of AARP ,I learned through their newsletter that benzodiazapines would not be covered by any Medicare D plan.I have Stiff Persons Syndrome and had been on a maintenance dose of Diazepam 30 mg. three times a day since 2000 and now by 4/2005 would have to find another medication family for my orphan disorder. My doctor and I decided to try Baclofen but that meant a schedule of decreasing the diazepam while increasing the baclofen until I could be weaned safely off the diazepam .What looked good on paper did not work in real life ,so I am now on both meds .The Diazepam cost $96.00 a month until I saw Montel Williams talk about 1-888-4PPANOW and I now pay $33.80 for 270 tabs/month plus the AAPP Rx plan monthly for my other meds .I will soon reach the "douhnut hole" because I've been diagnosed with osteoprosis and Fosomax has no generic and it costs $27 plus change for 4 pills /1 each week .I also have Parkinson's ,Diabetes 2,hypertension and cold nodules on my thyroid .I am 58 years old and have appealed the diazepam only to have it denied and the reply as reason was ," It must be approved by Congress to allow bezodiazipines to be inluded as formulary drugs ".And so it goes .
