Intention to wear you down
As a self-employed carpenter, I have basically given up on my Blue Shield plan, but keep it in case of serious emergency. The plan I have seems to be intentionally confusing, to the point that I have given up even trying to use them. I just figure I will have to pay every medical expense out of pocket. I recently had to wait over a year to get a melanoma removed because I could not pay for the removal ($1000 for half an hour of a doctor's time) and could not trust Blue Shield to pay for it after numerous intentionally confusing encounters with them.
The nurse started crying when I came back a year later to have it removed, and accused me of having a death wish. I used to live in Canada for four years, and it was great. Small issues remained just that. People claim that it is socialist. Huh? We already have so little to show for our tax dollars - I think the right question is what percentage of income is fair to pay for health coverage. We could eliminate a whole army of non-productive doctors and bureaucrats who's sole function is to make the lives of the productive doctors difficult. That savings could be passed on to every citizen!
