I slipped threw the Cracks!

Andrew
Novato, CA
Heathcare Status: Uninsured

I have Medicare and that helps a lot, but I cannot get health care or supplemental heath care. I am a wounded US Navy Vet. With the VA almost 50 miles from my front door, it just doesn't work for me in case of a emergency type situation. I have Called Kaiser, Aetna, Minninite, and a host of others. They turned me down because I didn't sign up for their health care within six months of my A&B Medicare Back in April of 87'. Who knew, and then I realized that they are lying to me. I can pay for what I get they just wont cover me period!

So how does this work with a single-payer plan? Will I still be turned down because I am disabled? Or Should I move into the VA at 52 years of age to ensure I get me "Health Care." If thats what you thing the VAMCSF is the best choice, then I have shed blood for this country and her people, only to be thrown out as trash... That I am more used too! My choices are, don't get sick or disappear.

So how does single payer work?

Andrew,

I am sorry to read of your struggles -- no U.S. veteran should ever want for healthcare. Thank you for serving, and you deserve better now.

To answer your question about single payer, you would never again have to worry about being proven disabled or sick enough to need care. All of us would get healthcare as a matter of right. No more fighting for care.

Keep reading and keep writing, and shame on those who have left you with no way to get the care you need.

Peace,
Donna
