Her life is ruined

My sister in law, Candice Minute has suffered from asthma since childhood. Severely abused as a child she was hospitalized multiple times throughout her life. (She is now in her late 20's.) When her husband filled out the paperwork for hospitalization through his job as a truck driver, he included the info about her asthma and noted all the medications she was on due to her asthma. She became very ill with the flu 3 years ago and her breathing problems were exacerbated. She ended up in the ER unable to breathe and was put on a step-down unit for cardiac monitoring due to an erratic heart beat caused by this illness. Ultimately her insurance refused to pay it and said they weren't aware of her pre existing condition. The bill was approximately $15,000. The hospital sued her, sent her to collection and now they are garnishing her wages. She works in a nursing home as an nurses aid so you can imagine how little she is paid to begin with. She had to move in with her mother as she has been unable to afford rent. I am horrified that the healthcare industry can ruin the life of someone who is already an underdog. I wish I could do something to help her. She should probably file bankruptcy.

Her insurance company is really slimy!

Do you have any recourse in Ohio at the state level? In California there is a board that is supposed to regulate and watch insurance companies. Not that they do much good, but it is worth a try to appeal to them if such a thing exists. I am very sorry for her trials.

I will be in San Francisco June 19th to protest her insurer and all the other low-life insurers and lobbyists that will be at the Moscone Center. I will carry her story in my heart as I protest those jerks.

Health care for all. No excuses.
