The GAME of diagnosis: Rules provided by the current system of insurance and medical providers

Several years ago I began having what I can best describe as bizarre systems including (1) dizziness when carrying my groceries, (2)dizziness when in large multi-isle stores such as the market. (3)I couldn't sleep at night because when I would lie down the room would begin to spin, (4)I could hear the sound of my own heartbeat inside my head, and (5) felt hot ear was move into the inner ear canals, etc. All this was 'new' to me and my body was screaming at me! Trip after trip to the doctor(s)got me very little help.

I was told numerous times such things as (1)"we all go through this" deary (I guessed she (the OBGYN) meant menopause although she could not confirm that was indeed what I was dealing with) to (2) "we're seeing too much of you" as one of two doctors (this one a GP)once stated as she attempted to put her hand on my arm, to". (Much later she would admit that thyroid problems were "quite common" in people my age! That said a $25.00 blood test would have revealed the problem a year earlier and not put me through working in a dysfunctional healthcare system which became almost as scary to me as the symptoms themselves were!!) My body was trying to tell me something but no one (except me) was or wanted to listen!

I began to quickly realize that I was the only one in charge of finding out what was going on inside my body and I went on the attack. I would show up at the doctor's offices whenever I was having a 'bad time' of dizziness and in fear that I was going to pass out and/or die. I had been a systems programmer by profession and I began to run my own 'problem determination' efforts in order to eliminate the possibilities of what was happening inside my body. I found ways to have tests run (using the systems own 'games' and rules which I won't mention here), and it took me a year to finally find that I had hypothyroidism. That year there was much muscle weakness due to non-diagnosis and I still wonder (since my heart is also a muscle) what that year of non-treatment did to me during that long year!

I was volunteer wellness officer at work so I began to counsel others on how to conduct their own problem determination efforts within the current health care system that allows insurance companies to dictate what rules of play doctors can and cannot run for tests, language to use, family history to invent (in order to get elimination tests conducted), etc. (I called it "Bitch lessons" or aka "how to conduct your own problem determination efforts")

I was insured as a public servant but I still didn't get the level of care that 'president Cheney'. (Yes, I refer to him as 'the president' spelling president with a very small 'p' but that's another story for another time indeed!) Meanwhile as a former wellness officer (volunteer) , I try my best to stay well and not need to engage with the current system whatsoever. Thanks for listening!
