Five Bypass Coronary Surgery Nightmare

In May of 2007, Union Memorial Hospital, Baltimore, Maryland, told me I must have bypass surgery or I would die. Period. And so, being ignorant and stupid at that time, I went. I had five bypass coronary surgery. God watched over me, for I wasn't one of the 2 to 4 percent that died right there on the table.

I followed the suggestions of the hospital and doctors to the letter. I went from 273 pounds to 223 and was convinced to go to 170 and remain there. I walked at least a mile a day and exercised on the Total Gym and used dumbbells every other day. I watched every calorie I took in and counted the calories I spent, always making sure that what I spent was more than I ate. I thought I had a new lease on life. I had no more chest pain!

About five months after the surgery, the chest pains were back with a vengeance. I went back to the hospital and asked the "good" doctor, Chief Cardio surgeon, why the pains were back. He replied, "I don't know. You need to come back to the hospital for more tests." I replied by informing him that he made approximately a quarter of a million dollars for that surgery and he's telling me he doesn't know. I also told him there was no way I would return for more slice'n dice. He said, "if you can live with the pain, then so can I."

Forty to fifty percent of these operations fail, just like mine. Why are they being done? For the same reasons as everything else in this evil, for-profit, "healthcare" system we're under. I will never return to the hospital for any kind of surgery. Enough is enough.
