Disabling the Middle Class: One Claim at a Time
I have been a nurse for the past 14 years. As a single mother trying to care for a disabled child, I have had to fight for care every step of the way. It was never about what my son needed - his options were always framed by the question "What will the insurance pay?"
Every time I change jobs, looking to advance my career or just get out of a dangerous work place, I have had to worry about getting sick or injured between insurance coverage. No hourly wage earner can afford COBRA benefits - what a joke. This whole system needs to be canned. Why isn't there any official willing to stand up and tell it like it is?
This story is so Obvious - health insurance only benefits the companies that sell it. Even Medicare and Medicaid don't work well anymore. We need to start OVER and do it right this time. It doesn't matter what age or gender anyone is. Where I live now, there simply are no more providers willing to take new patients because of reimbursement issues. We need Single Payer Health Care Now. Period.
