Denied Coverage for being healthy
Approximately four years ago I was working for an architect (small company) that did not provide a group health care package. I had to seek individual health coverage for myself.
I got a lead from a friend for an individual that would be able to help me. This individual came to the office and proceeded to apply to the various health insurance companies. To make a long story short, Aetna, Mutual of Omaha, Cigna, and Fannie May all rejected me due to lack of medical records. In arguing with one of them on the phone, I stated the I was being punished for being healthy (I never needed a doctor and was seeking this coverage for emergencies and/or catastrophic illness), at which time I requested them to send me to any doctor of their choice for a complete physical, which they refused.
To put this all in a nutshell- it came clear to me that since I had no health problems I was being denied, but what if I did have previous health problems? Then I would have fallen under a preexisting condition and I would have been denied on the grounds of that!! I quickly realized there was no way that I was ever going to get individual health coverage without a group health care plan offered by my employer. Since I have been working for small architectural firms, I am still to this day without coverage being four years older. Another concern is that due to the extreme cost of an individual policy; even if I was able to get one, I would be unable to afford it for me and my family.
Thank you for your time- God Bless You!!!

health insurance
I was on a group plan for 4 years. Then when I left the company I went on Mini cobra. (859.00) a month. Now after 18 months the Mini cobra is running out. I applied with the same company that has my cobra plan for a new policy. She said she had to check my health records. I had a stent almost two years ago. She sent me an application. $322.00 a month with a $2,900.00 deductable. When I sent it in they refused me. Then they wanted me to send in another form. Finally I got a hold of someone I hope got it right. She is sending in the application she received and putting me in for Hipaa insurance. Now I will have a $2,900.00 deductable and pay $756.00 a month. But who knows. I need insurance. What has become of this country. We can get welfare and medicare. But if we are working and willing to pay they can tell us no for any reason.
Crazy huh
