DEAR PRESIDENT OBAMA

I am a schoolteacher and was diagnosed with walking pneumonia today. My doctor prescribed Avelox, a new fast acting medicine to treat respiratory infections.

My usual copay is $10, but Oxford said I had to pay $50 for the medication that my Doctor prescribed me, and the pharmacy suggested another medication (one with more side effects).

It seems to me that the insurance companies get to act as if they are the Doctors. I like to know how the INSURANCE GIANTS are able to go against the expertise of my doctor? They should not be able to restrict medications nor make recommendations that go against what is best for my treatment, my body. My medical expenses totaled $80 in one day.

On the same note, my fiancé was diagnosed with bronchitis today. His insurance company would only give him 3 of the 5 pills in his antibiotic cycle. He has to go back in three days to get 2 more pills. Does this sound silly to you?

We need change President Obama; we the people need you to stand TALL against the GIANTS and advocate for better healthcare.

Yours truly, Shannon
