Criminal Enterprises That Front As Hospitals
Our 3 year-old daughter had an extremely high fever on a recent Saturday night. Of course, at that time of night there was nowhere else to take her, so we had to go to our local hospital.
To make a long story short, even with insurance, the current total of the bills for that night was over $1,800.00. Let me repeat....this was for a fever. That this is allowed to happen in this country is almost not possible. To say that the current "system" is broken is being overly generous. I think a more adequate description would be borderline criminal.
Everyone speaks of the 48 million who have no health insurance. What they never talk about is the other 48 million who have insurance that for all intent and purposes is worthless, and yet another 48 million Americans who are too asleep to realize they are within a hair of not having insurance if they lose their job, or get canceled from a serious illness.
We as Americans indulge in a lot of fantasy, not the least of which is that our current situation is "the best in the world". We need to quit the flag waving, develop a sense of shame, and get a grip.
