Republicans Callous on Healthcare?
Matt Miller in Time Magazine wonders if Republicans are "callous" on the issue of healthcare. It would be deadly for voters to believe they are...no pun intended.
.

Rudy Giuliani? Definitely callous. He supports…wait for it…wait for it…tax breaks for purchasing private insurance companies from the bloated behemoths who are driving our healthcare system into the ground.
Mitt Romney? Also callous. His "Massachusetts Mandate" plan would keep healthcare unaffordable for working Americans. Maybe that’s why he’s running away from his own record?
Is John McCain still running? Is Fred Thompson running yet?
Meanwhile, the good news in California is that Governor Arnold now says he would support SB 840, the single-payer bill, if there were enough money. Now how do we get him to read his briefing papers and learn that we save billions by bypassing insurance corporations? Send an alien from the future with the message?
Former Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist provides us comic relief by saying he’ll devote the rest of his career to improving global health. This after he made billions of dollars at the helm of Hospital Corporation of America, perhaps the nation’s most-despised hospital chain, then spent a Senate career doing nothing about the healthcare crisis.
But there’s good news. "Sicko" continues to impact healthcare debates around the country, and Wisconsin is considering a single-payer proposal.

Bill Frist
Senator Frist did something about healthcare. Among other things. while he was in the Senate a law was passed adding a loophole some hospitals (guess which ones) could use to deny emergency treatment to uninsured patients. Did anyone notice HCA was sold November 8 (the day Frist became a lame duck) for around $36 billion, and in a really sleezy, complicated deal engineered to over compensate the sellers? How much of that went to the Senator...oops....I guess that's none of our business now, but I'm guessing Bill and his friends don't need to worry about campaign financing.

Spoken like a true HCA nurse! Go get 'em!
